Community members come together to repair washed-out road in Catawba County

Reporter: JUST A MINUTE AGO WE SAW SOMEONE DRIVE ACROSS THIS BRIDGE FOR THE FIRST TIME. IT IS AND NORTHEAST HICKORY. THE BRIDGE WAS WIPED OUT WHEN WE HAVE THE FLOODWATERS BACK IN JUNE. THE ONLY WAY IN AND OUT WAS BY WALKING. WE SHOT SOME OF THIS VIDEO OVER THE SUMMER, THE DAMAGE ON THE BRIDGE. HEAVY RAIN FELL AND WIPED OUT THAT BRIDGE. ON THE OTHER SIDE FAMILIES WERE FORCED TO ABANDON THEIR CARS AND WALKED TO THEIR HOME. SOME EVEN WALKS THROUGH THE WOODS TO GET IN AND OUT. THEY RAISE SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS TO MAKE THE REPAIRS, COMPANIES LIKE MARK MARIETTA, BARKER LANDSCAPING AND THE CHURCH ALSO HELPED OUT BY GETTING THIS OUT HERE TO MAKE THE REPAIRS. WE SPOKE TO HOMEOWNERS EARLIER ABOUT THE WORK DONE HERE . I FEEL GREAT NOW. NOW I HAVE A PLACE I CAN GET IN NOW A LITTLE OVER AFTER THREE MONTHS IT IS LOOKING GOOD NOW.
